Today, I could be mopping the floors, or folding the mound’o laundry that has accumulated itself on my bedroom floor. I could be putting away the dishes or starting a load of laundry. Somehow, none of those things are getting done. I am thankful that instead of doing all that, I am busy with photography stuff. This is a good thing. Not for the state of my house but, on all other fronts, it’s a very good thing.

I am in the process of revamping my logo…again. I know, you are rolling your eyes. Seriously, I am already on my second logo. But, hey, I am constantly changing. Evaluating my business and where I want it to go. This has taken me some time. I have had to really take a step back and focus on the future. Where do I go from here? What do I want to focus on and how do I want to grow? I think for any business owner, this is a hard thing. It has taken me many sleepless nights but I have finally got it. The new logo is so me. It’s perfect in everyway. So, stay tuned later this week when I launch my new baby.

On another front, I am finishing up this session. Because she is my sister, I have taken my sweet time editing her pictures. Okay, really, I have taken WAY to long and I admit that. You can always count on family, huh??? I think she might just hurt me if I don’t finish up soon. So, because I love you so much I am avoiding all of the above things to finish your pictures. I hope you love them as much as I do!

Have you ever tried to photography lightning? Seriously though, it’s hard. The other night there was an amazing dry lightning storm. Growing up, we would always visit family in San Angelo. One of the things I remember was the dry storms. The lightning was incredible. It lit up the sky for hours and you could see it for miles. Really, just one of those things of nature that you grow to appreciate. Too bad when I was a kid I just couldn’t understand why it was lightning but there was no rain. I must have asked my mom a thousand times, “where’s the rain”.

Anyways, I was driving home from the store the other night and there was some seriously amazing lightning. I called hubby and had him meet me outside with my camera. I had no flash attached so I had to crank up the ISO to get enough light. I mean, how hard could it be? But, really, I must have stood there for an hour shooting my camera like I was a mad women. I took probably 300 shots and you know what I got??? 300 shots and all I got was one(lousy) shot, the rest…black. How irritating! As I’m shooting I am thinking that I’m getting some amazing stuff to maybe frame in the house. But, nope, nothing. It turns out, photographing lighting is a lot harder than I ever thought.

Could we ask for better weather??? I mean, cooler days and rain falling from the sky. It’s a beautiful sight. When I lived in Houston, I took for granted all the rainy days that we had. Rain was a constant, a bummer on fun summer plans. Here, rain is hard to come by. The grass dies and plants take on this depressingly brown tinge. The days of 100+ weather and no drops from a sky can almost send you into a depression. And then, just when you can’t take it anymore, the rain and cooler days come. Around this house, we just want to be outside. Even if it’s raining, we sing our song and dance with our barefeet in the rain until we are so wet and cold that we can’t take it anymore. It’s refreshing. It brings about a sense of rejuvination that was desperately needed.

So, our days have been spent galavanting around. Hopping from park to park, enjoying the green-ness that has accompanied our rain. Teagen just loves the swing and Eli has gotten old enough that he can climb the ladders and ‘big boy’ things at the park without my having an anxiety attack. Yes, fall is in full bloom at our house. I am loving every minute of it. And yes, I am that germ phobe mom that doesn’t want her daughter teething on the dirty swing so I insist on covering it with a blanket!

Did I ever mention what happened to my finger on our trip to Houston? Probably not because the whole trip was something that I would prefer to just put behind me. I pulled my back out(now, that makes me feel seriously old), smashed my finger, Teagen had 2 teeth come in and my son had projectile vomiting the whole way home. It was a long trip. But, I smashed my finger in the car door. Okay, let me rephrase that, I smashed my finger in my Expedition door. It hurt like hell. I mean, really bad. Like it still hurts today. I am just now able to type with the darn thing and all I kept thinking was ” I’m sure glad it’s not my shutter finger because that would really suck!”And really, the picture doesn’t do it justice. This was about 2 hours after I did it and it only got worse from this point. I had planned on taking many, many pictures but with all that transpired, this would be one of the only stellar pictures that I got of my baby!

Did I mention that Ryan is also a big ham for the camera? Just finishing editing these pictures and thought I would post this one!Â
So I went to pick up my little man from ‘preschool’ this afternoon. He was still sleeping when I got there and I was so glad because I had brought him a lollipop if he woke up dry. So, I woke him up and sure enough, he was dry! I congratulated him, picked him up and gave him his prize. I was about to take him to the bathroom when he peed all over me! Go figure, I sure am glad it’s Friday. The thing is though…he still got the lollipop because he did wake up dry. I will be modifying that prize for next time though. I have learned. Wake up dry and stay dry until you get to the potty!

Teagen and I went outside for a little photo shoot this morning. And, by little, I mean about 2 minutes until she face planted it in the rocks while I was trying to delete some images. All because I was too lazy to go get a new card. Â My mom-of-the-year-nomination has been revoked yet again. But, I did get a couple of cute pictures in those few minutes. And, yesterday my little man FINALLY decided that licking the dough off of the spatula isn’t so bad afterall!

The weather is awesome around here today. It was below 72 all morning and I actually opened up the windows so that I could let some fresh air in…this is what it must feel like to live in California, so nice! It makes me feel like fall is here and gets me all giddy about the holidays! Speaking of holidays, book your sessions now. October is just about full and the others are following close behind!

I was just finishing up Matt and Julie’s engagement session and I found a couple other jems that I had to post. On another note, my little man turns 2.5 today. That is just mind boggling to me. He seems so much older but yet so 2.5. In fact, to help celebrate his little half birthday, yesterday he decided that he was going to scream for 2.5 hours for me. That is no exageration. It was loud, painful, and made me want to pull my hair out. Yes, we are really, truly now 2.5. Thanks for helping me celebrate bud!!!

What could bring on a smile this big???It must be my new camera! I couldn’t be more excited. For whatever reason, the hubby thought I needed an upgrade(I think so he could use the 40D) but either way, I got a new Canon 5D Mark. Ahh, my heart beats faster just thinking about it. It’s like butter in my hands. The sound of the shutter speed brings me a rush of excitement that can only be described as what happens when you are about to take ‘the big plunge’ on a rollercoaster. Yes, I am that excited. Too bad I have been sick since I got it but I managed to muster my way out of bed and snap this one of my little babe. Check out that quality. It’s that full frame, I swear, it makes such a big difference to me. My 40D has done me good and will still be on me as my backup during photo shoots but, for now, I am loving my new baby. She’s even sleeping on the nightstand next to me…ahh, sweet dreams!

Check out Ryan. Isn’t he adorable. Even his cranky pictures are cute. A cute-cranky-baby, that is something that is hard to come by.

I am late on this posting…okay, really late. We have been sick around here. You name it, we’ve had it. In the past week. It’s been miserable. But, I think we are on the mends and looking forward to bright days ahead.

I am trying out some knew things on my pictures. Ahhh, we’ll see how it goes.
