Sweet Des. He was so good to me. 9 days old and he was the most laid back newborn that I have had in quite a while. Big brother was a bursting ball of energy and I can so remember those days like they were yesterday! But, he sure does love his brother.

And, not that I want to brag or anything, but I did not get pee’d or pooped on the entire session…that itself is a miracle!!

Life has thrown me a curve ball lately as my husband recently broke his femur. I was secretly looking forward to the session for the sole fact that I was able to get out of the house sans kids and get some fresh air.

When I arrived, I was greeted by this beautiful couple who are expecting their first child in the next month-ish. My excitement at being out of the house was quickly overtaken by getting to photograph them. They were such troupers and walked all over with me to get the ‘perfect shots’. They might have thought I was a little nutso when I said, “this is the perfect parking garage” but, they stuck with me and I hope it was worth it! Can’t wait to meet their little man soon!!

What are the chances be that after months and months of hot, hot weather that we would have a session on the one cold morning. I guess I am a lightweight now but it was pretty darn cold out. Luckily, they stuck with me and, between running around and bundling up in jackets between locations, we managed to survive.

I was so glad when this family contacted me this year because I missed out on photographing them last year. They are so fun-loving and easy-going. Perhaps the thing that struck me the most throughout our session was the connection between dad and daughter. That’s why I love taking pictures, you capture connections that are real.

It’s been almost a year since I have photographed this sweet family and let me tell you, their little baby isn’t a baby anymore. He is a full-fledged walking, talking toddler. Man, was he busy. But, so very handsome and cute. And, in honor of his pictures, he got his first haircut. Sigh. They grow up so fast.

This little sweet girl was a lets-feed-her-and-then-put-her-down-real-quick kind of a baby. She liked to eat and she only kind of liked to sleep. Nonetheless, she was a doll. And, she totally has her sisters lips. It’s amazing how some traits carry from one child to another and then some don’t. Genetics is pretty amazing.

This sweet little girls birth-day was a very special event indeed. She was a surprise and many thought she was a he but what a beautiful little girl she is. Not only that but her momma got a VBAC. I couldn’t be happier for her and the birth that she had.

I could photograph baby feet all day long. No matter how many newborns I hold and cuddle, I can’t ever get enough of their sweet, wrinkly feet.

I, once again, had the honor of capturing this wonderful family as they continue to embark on their journey, this time welcoming their newest addition. I am in constant awe of their upbeat, positive attitude; I know that some days are harder than others, but in the little time that I have known this family, it is evident that through their love and grace they will come out on the other side with a smile on their faces and stronger than ever.

I hope these pictures give you a little “pick me up”. That they keep your fire lit and your will strong.

On September 3rd, a massive fire started burning in Central Texas. Bastrop was taken by storm and lives were shattered.

I get goosebumps thinking about it. It’s hard to grasp the magnitude of the situation, to understand the devestation. After hearing the news, I put together some things to take down to Bastrop. Upon arriving, it was overwhelming. Shelters had poped up everywhere and donations were pouring in. I immediately felt called to serve. I did some research and soon discovered a network in Austin called The Austin Disaster Relief Network. They happened to have a CISM training starting that week and I knew that is where I needed to be. To say this organization is amazing would be an understatement. They do many things but above all, they offer hope and healing during times of disaster. Hope and healing. Those are powerful words.

I traveled to Bastrop last Sunday with the Austin Disaster Relief Network to offer my services. It started with a massive church service and ended with vouchers being handed out to residents who would soon be going back into the remains of their community for the first time since the fire started. What I saw was heartache, grieving and glimmers of hope. People were inspired to help others. Friends holding hands, strangers embracing and CISM volunteers offering the beginnings of the grieving and healing process.

I took some time to drive down parts of 71 that had been previously closed. It was a life changing moment for me. To see all that was lost. Beauty taken. Trees burned to nothing but black sticks. To see a community lost. It was, indeed, life changing.

So, I encourage you to donate. Donate your time, donate your heart, donate. It will take more than a few to help rebuild this community but I can assure you that it will be done.
